Honey Bees!

We got honey bees! 22,000 Italian honey bees from Georgia were delivered in the mail in early April.

Harry and I have been reading up on them and let me tell you it is overwhelming! Bees seem like they would be easy - just leave them alone and then collect the honey, right? Wrong. There is so much to keeping bees while also not disturbing them too much.

We got two hives because everything we have read says that you are likely to lose one in your first year. Two also let’s you compare one to the other to see what is normal and what isn’t.

We got them in hopes of helping to improve the pastures here on the farm and to eventually have a little honey.
